All-America Homes 1959 - plan #153

A ground-hugging house, half glass and half clear- finished redwood on the exterior, presents a most lived-in look. Much of the wood is exposed on the interior (note beams in garden room) and ceilings follow the roof in the living room and center bedrooms. Built-in below the windows of bedroom hall is a long row of linen cabinets.

Sketch shows how plant area adjoining chimney is open to both living and garden rooms. We specify colored cement floor in latter so it can be hosed down with ter- race. The fireplace which opens into both rooms is flush with living room floor. Brick tile is used for the hall floor because of traffic from kitchen to living rooms. For those who do not desire a garden room, the garage could take its place.

The basement has a good storage workroom, also play- room and laundry. House is 78 ft. wide by 62 ft. deep, covering 1942 sq. ft. of which 360 forms the garden room.

Alternate Kitchen Plan has a laundry added to the original kitchen and stairway plan, intended for those who are building without basement. However, the laundry room could be added in any event if you wish. You may prefer the exchanged positions of kitchen cabinet and dinette.

The garden room has two window walls, heavy exposed beams and wide overhangs. It is built on a concrete slab. Note plant area division between livingroom and garden room.
